Faith in Action Volunteer Opportunities

Transportation
Mileage reimbursement available. We keep you within your community, or if you are willing we can have you make the long commutes. Life-long friendships can develop as you befriend your needy seniors. All days/all times, flexibility. Our drivers tell us they are motivated by things of the heart, and they receive more than they give. Secondary Insurance, training, and support. Call today. We accommodate your schedule or we can set you up with a routine or two.

Planning and Scheduling Center
There are several areas of expertise that are valued in our planning and scheduling center: data entry, customer service calls, telephone assistance, filing, organizing. Please contact us for details. We would like to assign you to a 3 hour block. Call for current openings.

Yard work
Seniors may still be able to maintain their indoor living environment, but with their yards they need assistance. YOU can make a difference. Why not call us, and bring your buddies too! Groups are always welcome. Spring and Fall are especially needful times.

Companionship - Friendly visits, phone calls
The largest epidemic facing seniors is loneliness. You can help stay off this epidemic by visiting with a senior.

Light Housekeeping
Light housekeeping entails mopping, vacuuming, and dusting. More to the point are the friendships that can develop as you help stay off loneliness and depression while you offer to provide these small services.

Respite Care
Senior sitting is really what respite care entails. Reading to or playing a game with, no hands on or medical skills needed. Just provide relief to a 24 hour care giver, usually a spouse who needs time away. You can receive blessing when you give.

Faith in Action Offers Volunteers
  • Flexibility: You volunteer as it suits your schedule, which can vary from week to week. No minimum hours required.

  • A supportive work environment: Our support staff is available to orient, coach or assist you.

  • Liability insurance and mileage reimbursement: We offer liability insurance, mileage reimbursement as well as a stipend and educational benefits for our Legacy Volunteers.

  • A rich and rewarding life experience: Our volunteers tell us that their interface with older persons is enriching.

  • FIAMC is currently providing a mileage reward, for those who have driven 50 miles in any one month (there will be NO carry over of mileage). The award must be requested by checking the appropriate box for the on line "form" or by signing the appropriate box when hours are reported and a mileage reward is requested. This is possible until current grants are expended. For those who do not request a reimbursement, the IRS allows volunteers to write off miles driven, check with your tax consultant to determine your eligibility.

  • Funding for mileage rewards includes transports for seniors in McHenry County ONLY. Seniors living in the Kane County portion of Sun City can not benefit from McHenry County funds. The majority of our transports are eligible. If this is of concern to you, please verify before accepting the transport opportunity.

Note: For the protection of FIAMC care receivers a background check is conducted on all prospective volunteers, including a driving record.

For more information on how you can benefit yourself, while benefiting FIAMC call 815.455.3120 or submit this online form.
